Security Reminder

With the number of "phishing" style emails multiplying a reminder is in order as to your account security and our policies. It is important that everyone know what to expect and perhaps more importantly what not to expect from us.

  • The most important reminder: We do not need your password for anything and will never ask for it in an email.

  • If you call our support desk with an issue then we might ask for your password over the phone (so we can test functionality) but never via email. If you receive an email that asks for your password, that email did not come from us.

  • We will never send you any binary or executable attachments via email. If you receive an email that appears to be from an Avvanta administrative account and it includes an attachment "we" are suggesting you open or execute then that email did not come from us. Emails of this nature should be discarded immediately.

  • Never send your credit card number in an email - not even when sending to us. You can post new or update existing credit card information securely online using the CCC at http://www.avvantamail.com/. Email is never to be considered secure. If you send us your credit card via email we will destroy that email immediately (so that it does not get stored in our mail archive)

  • For the same reason you should not send credit card information via email, we will never send password information via email. Once your password is entered here it is encrypted one-way. We cannot tell you (or anyone else) what your password is, even if we wanted to. If you forget your password you will need to call our office to have it reset. We will ask for specific account information during that call to verify your identity before making the password change.

  • We do not accept email requests to modify accounts unless the email originates from within our own network. (ie, from your DSL connection, dial-up connection, or the CCC's web mail.) This assures us that email request is originating from the user of the account. If you need to make changes to your account you may do so via email, but make sure that email is sent from within our network. The easiest way to do this from anywhere using any internet connection is to use the CCC at http://www.avvantamail.com/. If you send us an email from outside the network asking us to make a change of any kind that request can not be honored. Instead you will receive an email back from us asking you to re-send your request from within our network.

  • Our Administrative role accounts are: Support, Sales, Hostmaster and Abuse. Email "bounce" notices are sent from MAILER-DAEMON. If you receive an email from any of these accounts that you consider to be questionable, feel free to reply (since it will come to us, although you should not reply to the MAILER-DAEMON as that's an automated mailbox) or call our office for verification. If you receive an email that pretends to be an administrative account, such as "Admin", "root", System Administrator or similar addresses - rest assured they did not come from us. Those emails are guaranteed to be bogus and should be discarded.

  • It is never an imposition upon us to make certain that the email or instruction you have received is valid. If you are ever in doubt as to the validity of an email apparently from us, simply call our office and we will be happy to either verify or debunk if need be the email instructions you have received.
